Ovenden Under-16s 14 Cubs Under-16s 24 - Keith Shackleton opened the scoring for the Cubs with a classy opening try.

He took the ball from a scrum just 10 metres from his own line and powered through three tacklers before sprinting 75 yards to score. Kritian Stell neatly converted.

Two minutes later Shackleton scored an almost identical try, but this time only had to race half the length of the pitch. Stell added the conversion from wide on the left.

Reece Atkinson pounced on Peter Gower's cross kick for their third try to give the Cubs an 18-10 half time lead.

Two second half tries from James Sharples secured victory.

Clayton 12

Clayton were dumped out of the League Cup at the first hurdle as the Under-14s turned on their best performance of the season. Clayton are second in the league, just behind the Keighley club, but they were given a lesson by a rock solid Cubs defence.

They played well above their years and the attacking was just as good.

They absorbed all that Clayton could throw at them and still turned round with a 10-0 lead at half time. Danny Snowden and Rick Barr put in some bone-crunching -tackles and Joe Milner, Joe Kennedy who both played despite injuries.

Steve O'Hara, the quiet man of the pack put in an awesome performance. Ben Carly picked up the man of the match award and top try scorer Adam Wilkinson was named man of steel. Tim Bibby also put in two try-saving tackles.

n Cougar Cubs Under-17s beat Victoria Rangers 62-6 to complete nine games without defeat.

The classy Cubs scored 13 tries and five goals.

This week they are aiming to make it ten victories in a row when they play Mirfield at Cougar Park. the match kicks off at 11.30am.
