The district's primary schools are again proving successful, the latest national league tables have shown this week.

The tables list the performances achieved by Wharfedale, Aireborough and Horsforth's 11-year-olds in the national curriculum tests in English, maths and science.

They show the per centage of children gaining the expected national standard, level four, in the three subjects.

It is a measure of the standards they have achieved in these core subjects during key stage two of the curriculum, between the ages of 7-11.

Bramhope Primary and St Mary's in Horsforth performed best out of the district's schools.

Chairman of Bramhope Parish Council, Colin Robertson said: "I would like to congratulate the staff for the efforts made to achieve these results and its excellent Ofsted results.

"The Parish Council considers Bramhope School as part of the backbone of the village community.

"We are confident that the school and its staff have established the basis of a bright future for the school and the children of the village."

Headteacher of St Mary's, Sue Rushfirth said: "Once again the school has something to celebrate but the results don't show the whole picture.

"We are also proud of the achievements of our children in sport, music, drama and the arts. We recognise that there are those who work hard in other schools across the city and their positive contribution shouldn't be forgotten."

Head of Burley Oaks Primary School, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Roy Pallas, said he was pleased with his school's results, and the progress it has made in the two years since its creation. The school saw 92 per cent of pupils achieve the standard in maths, 98 per cent in English, and 100 per cent in science.

l The Sunday Times has put the Froebelian School in Horsforth in the top ten schools in the country in its Parent Power supplement for the second year in a row.

The supplement analysed the results from national curriculum tests for 11-year-olds and, based on passes at Level 5 and above. Froebelian came eighth out of 250 preparatory schools.
