THE annual publication of national curriculum test results for 11-year-olds has revealed Ilkley's primary schools are again proving successful.

High percentages of pupils in all of the area's state run primary schools achieved the required 'level four' standard in Standards Assessment Tests (SATs) carried out in local schools this year.

And one Ilkley school saw all of the pupils who sat the tests achieve the Government-set standard - a record matched by only one other state school in the Bradford District.

The SATs test 11-year-olds' abilities in the three core National Curriculum subjects of English, maths and science.

The most successful school in the Ilkley area was Sacred Heart RC Primary School, Ben Rhydding, which saw 100 per cent of the pupils who took the tests achieving the level four standard in all three core subjects.

Head teacher Aileen Madden said the school was delighted by the results, but it was not the first time the school, has gained a 100 per cent record in the tests.

She said: "We are absolutely delighted. We've just been having a little celebration. The children worked so hard, we've got terrific support from our parents and governors. And we've got a great team of staff who are really committed to their work and to the children."

Other high-scoring schools in the area included Burley Woodhead C of E Primary School, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Addingham Primary School, and Menston Primary School.

Burley Woodhead Primary saw 97 per cent of its pupils achieving level four in English tests, 90 per cent in maths and 100 per cent in science.

In Addingham, 96 per cent of the pupils sitting the tests achieved level four in English and science, and 91 per cent in maths.

Head teacher, Jane Drake, said: "We're very pleased with the results. We're all new primary schools and this is only the second year for all of us, but I'm pleased with how we've done. The school's improving, and that's what we're looking for."

Of the 53 pupils who sat the tests at Menston Primary School, 98 per cent reached level four in science, 94 per cent in maths and 91 per cent in English.

Other primary schools in the valley also had high percentages of pupils achieving the standards.

Head of Burley Oaks Primary School, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Roy Pallas, said he was pleased with his school's results, and the progress it has made in the two years since its creation.

The school saw 92 per cent of pupils achieve the standard in maths, 98 per cent in English, and 100 per cent in science.

Of the 49 pupils who sat the tests at All Saints Primary School, which recently moved to Easby Drive, Ilkley, 86 per cent achieved level four in English, 94 per cent in maths, and all pupils gained the standard in science.

At Ben Rhydding Primary School, 98 per cent of pupils achieved level four in science, along with 89 per cent in maths and 93 per cent in English.

At Ashlands Primary School, 82 per cent of the pupils achieved the standard in English and maths, and 93 per cent in science.
