SIX of the Baildon-based Seishin-Ryu karate students successfully sailed through their Black Belt at Warrington.

They were graded by three of the most distinguished Shuko-kai Karate Union chief instructors (ranked 7th and 8th dans) in England.

Sensei Tan's son, Marcus Tan Wei Heng, aged 14, and a pupil of Guiseley School; Tony Megaw, an IT manager for Bradford Hospitals NHS Trust, and Steven Ronkowski, a CAD systems manager, all successfully completed their grading to 2nd degree black belt.

Three other students, Heather Graham, a mother of three from Baildon; Matthew Connolly, a pupil of Salt Grammar School, from Baildon, and Andrew Jones, a pupil of Hanson School, all successfully attained their coveted 1st degree black belts.

Instructor Sensei Julian Tan, 4th degree black belt, admits he is very committed and dedicated to the art of Shukokai Karate-do.

He believes his students show the same commitment. They have been training consistently and exceptionally hard for this grading and well deserve their black belt achievement.
