T echnology company Systemnet is set to break through the £1 million turnover barrier next year - after just three years in business.

The Thornton Road firm was set up by Jonathan Grice, a former Belle Vue Boys pupil, who recognised the need for high-quality technology services in the area.

The company, which currently employs 15 people, has stayed true to its roots - despite the numbers of IT firms flocking to nearby Leeds.

Mr Grice, 35, Systemnet's managing director, explained: "Bradford is a superb place to live and work and we employ top-class people who all live locally.

"In addition many of our clients are Bradford based but we are also picking up high-profile customers from right across the UK as our reputation spreads.

"Many people have suggested that we would be better to move to Leeds but we will always be loyal to Bradford and that has contributed to our rapid growth."

Systemnet has positioned itself as a high performance multi-service company, providing specialist advice and installation for all IT solutions.

It strives to offer the latest in technological advancements with the benefits of its expertise to companies both large and small.

From the original consultation, through to the implementation and testing of a system, to the training of the end users and technical support - Systemnet claims to do it all.

Mr Grice added: "We work with companies on a partnership basis which allows them to develop their IT needs in line with their own growth.

"Too many businesses view IT as a black hole when it comes to costs so our task has always been to ensure their technological development is as smooth and as cost effective as possible.

"By providing the best technological advice and backing that up by installation expertise we are in a prime position for growth."

A major concern for the firm, which last week was visited by Prince Andrew, is keeping up to date with the latest IT trends - as many firms are unwilling to invest in up-to-date equipment.

But, Systemnet claims it can overcome this issue as it has the knowledge and skills to take care of virtually any generation of computer.

Mr Grice said: "Our in-house skills are second to none and envied within the industry.

"We have programmers who are working on projects such as bespoke stock control systems and complex two-way text messaging technology which integrate into call centre systems enabling technicians to report back their status etc. within seconds.

"We supply the full IT solution to our clients and currently have 30 plus major projects on the go, ranging from installation of network points, servers, firewall solutions, and broadband connectivity through to long term roll out of new operating systems and technologies.

"Many of our staff are experienced right across the board and as with any business which aims to stay ahead of the pace we have to be involved in a continual development and learning process.

"That cutting-edge knowledge helps with potential customers of all sizes and we work with big blue-chip brands such as Yorkshire Water to ensure they stay fully up to speed with new technologies."

Systemnet also plays a part in contributing to the local community.

It has sponsored the Bradford Bulldogs ice hockey team in a deal which has seen the team sporting brand new home and away kits for the 2002/2003 season.

Gavin Penn, spokesman for the Bulldogs, said: "Systemnet has been our first main corporate partners for a long time and this deal cements our relationship for the future.

"This shows that companies are still willing to support Bradford's sporting clubs and is welcomed by all concerned."

Systemnet also set up a website for the Bradford Sport & Recreation Association for People with Disabilities (BSRAPD).

Apart from helping those around it, the firm seems to have a very secure financial future.

David Robinson, the firm's finance director, added: "Systemnet is run on a professional basis working with well-established customers and provides quality service at reasonable prices.

"Performance during 2002 is ahead of previous years and we strongly believe the investment and training has been completed that will provide a solid base from which further growth can be achieved in 2003.

"Heavy financial investment in purpose built and secure offices and a solid internet-based infrastructure provides Systemnet with an enviable infrastructure which is being constantly developed thus allowing Systemnet to deliver IT solutions across the country."

One of Systemnet's clients is chartered accountancy Auker Rhodes.

When the Manningham Lane firm decided to build upon its IT infrastructure it picked Systemnet to help it achieve its goals.

David Akester, senior partner at Auker Rhodes, explained: "Systemnet has been instrumental in bringing us forward in terms of new technology.

"We have a good working relationship with Systemnet whom we can rely on to advise and implement any requirements we have with the minimum of disruption."

Dave Thompson, technical manager at Systemnet, added: "We have worked hard with Auker Rhodes on a number of different projects.

"From our initial involvement of re-cabling the whole data and voice infrastructure, through to upgrading the servers, and indeed, installing new servers and cabling to accommodate more users within the company."

After visiting one of Systemnet's largest clients, Wrapid Packaging, Prince Andrew was interested in the custom solution for Wrapid as he toured Systemnet's offices.

"We have written a full blown sales, manufacturing and CRM system for Wrapid,'' Mr Grice said. "This system now runs the whole business process and provides instant management reporting which enables key decisions to be made almost immediately."

With the £1 million turnover barrier so to be broken the future for Systemnet looks rosy.

Mr Grice added: "Hopefully in five years time we'll be looking to float the firm."
