A Telegraph & Argus Bradford Can... Cancer Research Appeal huge Christmas challenge is more than halfway there.

At the beginning of the month we asked people to spread a little Christmas cheer and help the £1million appeal.

The aim is to raise £25,000 by Christmas Day and two weeks into the challenge, the total stands at £13,628. All over the district, a variety of festive fun has been taking place to help cancer research in the city.

The money will go towards developing new anti-cancer drugs at Bradford University's Cancer Research Unit.

Then they will go on to be tested on patients at Bradford Royal Infirmary. With world-renowned research taking place in the city, it is possible a treatment which could help people all over the globe could be found here.

And as an even bigger incentive, when the £1million target is hit Cancer Research UK will put another £5 million into the investigations in Bradford. So far, the appeal has raised a sensational £800,000.

Tish Burton, Bradford Can...Appeal manager, said: "Thank you to all those who have given so far. Now we just need to double that amount to reach £25,000 this month. We need everyone's help to do it."

This week, the Girls' Grammar School, Bradford has held its annual Christmas concert in aid of the Bradford Can...Appeal.

Pupils at the school in Squire Lane, pictured, took part in the musical extravaganza.

Pipeline Center, of Fowler Street Industrial Estate, Bradford, has given a hamper worth £100 to raise money.

Two tickets for Bradford City's Boxing Day match against Stoke City have been given by Bradford & Bingley worker Janet Goodyear and are up for grabs in a telephone auction.

The giveaway includes lunch in Valley Parade.
