The family of a runaway Bradford riot suspect have flown to Pakistan and brought him home to face the music.

Detectives had maintained close contact with the 18-year-old's relatives, who told them they were preparing to make the 7,000 round trip to the region last week.

He is believed to have left the UK several months ago after police released his 'wanted' mugshot among scores of others in the Telegraph & Argus.

After liaising with the police over their proposed plan, several family members made the journey to the Asian sub-continent and escorted the teenager back to Britain on Tuesday.

After finally arriving back in the city, officers from Operation Wheel - the police inquiry into last July's disorder - arranged to meet the suspect at his family home along with a number of other relatives.

The man, who has not been named by police, has since been charged with an offence of riot and will appear in court.

Detective Inspector Tony Craven, from Operation Wheel, said: "Our officers made inquiries which suggested this man had been in Pakistan for a number of months.

"They maintained close liaisons with his family and, as a result, his return journey into this country and the subsequent meeting with officers was arranged."

Det Insp Craven said the episode highlighted both the community's continued support for the inquiry and the police's determination to bring suspects before the courts.

He said: "Although 17 months have now passed since that night which brought devastation to the city of Bradford, we remain absolutely committed to arresting those responsible who remain outstanding."
