The University of Bradford made history with its largest ever graduation ceremony - in Singapore.

The students, who were mainly Chinese, had been studying at the university's partner institute, Manage-ment Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS).

Nearly 450 students were awarded Bachelor of Science degrees in computing with management, business and management studies, and marketing at the ceremony.

University vice-chancellor Professor Chris Taylor, who travelled to Singapore for the presentation, said: "This was a very memorable occasion for all those who took part in the ceremony and I would like to wish all of those who received awards success and happiness in their future careers."

MDIS is the oldest not-for-profit professional institute for lifelong learning in Singapore.

Founded in 1956, it is one of the most established professional management institutes in Singapore.

Many of the students had not been able to study for a degree until they had become established in their careers.

They had studied part-time while holding down full-time jobs in Singapore.

The tie-up with MDIS is just one of the many international partnerships which the university is involved with.

Other schemes include business education courses in France, Spain and Poland, an MBA in Dubai and links with the Institute for Integrated Learning in Management in New Delhi, India.

Professor Taylor said the university was keen to build on its international links.

"Students are given the opportunity to study in their own cities without the need to travel abroad," he said.

"It is encouraging and building on the idea of off-site delivery by working with partners world-wide and taking courses to other countries rather than bringing students here.

"It all helps to widen the opportunities for students."
