Armley Athletic 1 Pool AFC 7

POOL continued their successful run in the West Yorkshire League. A dark day and a heavy pitch which got worse as the match went on were not conducive to sparkling football but urged on by probably the best touchline team in Leeds Pool eventually made their superior abilities pay.

After 20 minutes Danny Willoughby flicked on a goalbound shot to put the visitors ahead.

Pool then pressed for more but squandered chances and were only level at half-time after young Chris Thompson conceded a silly penalty.

The second-half saw Pool up the pace and their commitment and they were soon to be rewarded. Willoughby's astute cross gave Andy Grahan his first goal with a diving header. Prodigal son Jackson secured Pool's third with a deft touch and Sean Joyce joined in the goal fest with some smart finishing for two goals.

By the time Andy Graham netted his second with quick reactions to a goalmouth scramble the home side were miserable. They had changed goalkeepers, increased their foul rate and had just about given up.

This victory puts Pool in good spirits for the Wharfedale FA Challenge Cup semi-final against Salts Old Boys at home on Saturday.

If Pool play to their best then the winning run will continue and will give manager Martin Dennison more gifts for Christmas.

The annual match between the marrieds and singles for the Franklin Trophy will take place on Boxing Day. All players seeking a post Christmas blow out will get a run in teams organised by Graeme Evans and Gary Chantler. Players should meet at 10.30 am.

Players are asked to bring along the family with the bar open and food available after the match.
