Lincoln United 2 Guiseley 3

AFTER a cold, snowy day in Lincolnshire Guiseley came home with all three points thanks to a wonder goal from young midfielder Dave Henry.

In the 83rd minute he defied the gluepot conditions and a host of home defenders to net a quality goal which has seen Neil Parsley's men move up to 17th in the table.

Guiseley had started well with Henry having a good chance after five minutes but it went just wide. Mark Stuart was also wide with his 14th minute effort and Stewart Airdrie was unable to make the most of his one-on-one chance with the 'keeper.

Guiseley went ahead in the 20th minute when Mark Stuart pulled the ball back from the corner of the six yard box for David Cooke to shoot home with his left foot. Henry then had a shot cleared and five minutes later he hit a post.

Lincoln levelled in the 35th minute when a long ball from Horsewood to Williams on the left enabled the latter to find Gareth Jones who grabbed the equaliser after getting in behind centre-back Jon Wordsworth.

Guiseley hit back and went ahead again just two minutes later when a brilliant cross from Henry was headed home by Cooke.

With a suspiciously off-side looking goal Lee Cooper pulled Lincoln level once more.

Guiseley continued to have their chances in the second-half with Peter Sumner shooting wide in the 52nd minute, Stewart Airdrie shooting over in the 65th minute and Mark Stuart having his left foot shot saved in the 71st minute.

With manager Parsley sensing that Guiseley could claim all the points he took off midfielder Sumner to add another striker in Alan Bailey.

Yet to play a home game for Guiseley, Bailey came on for the last 20 minutes after a lay-off with a knee injury sustained at Matlock Town on only his second outing for the club.

He too had a shot saved before Henry came up with his magical winner beating five players before squeezing the ball home with a shot from just outside the area.

Manager Parsley said: "It was an excellent win and well deserved but we made it hard for ourselves. Three points away from home are very welcome and with very few games played on Saturday it was even more vital that we won.

"Effectively it is one of our games in hand and it takes our unbeaten run to six matches now.

"The only downside is that the win was more convincing than the scoreline looks. We let them off the hook in the first-half but fortunately it did not cost us.

"The goal that won it for us was worthy of winning any game in the country - it was a stunner."

Monday's League Cup game at home to Droylsden was postponed due to a snow covered and frozen pitch as was Saturday's Reserve team game at home to Farsley Celtic. The Droylsden game has been re-arranged for January 20.

l On Saturday Guiseley visit Trafford. The Reserves will entertain Chester City on Monday 7.30 pm kick-off.
