Gordon Gibb today launched a withering attack on Scarborough boss Russell Slade after his U-turn over the City youth-team job.

Slade changed his mind after verbally agreeing terms over the weekend - but didn't tell the Bantams chairman.

An angry Gibb claimed: "He didn't even have the good grace to ring. He spoke to the papers and should have been man enough to give me a call.

"He rang me at midday on Sunday and everything was hunky dory. He was going to come over yesterday and sign his contract.

"There was no indication that he would change his mind.

"We had a couple of very productive conversations regarding Bradford and what we had in mind with the club's youth policy.

"We had sorted out the personal terms and Russell had got everything he asked for. I can't for the life of me understand why this has happened.

"When you get to the point of agreeing contracts and something changes then it's unprofessional not to let the other person know. That is the real frustration.

"I have wasted my time rushing over to Scarborough for meetings with people who are pretending they are interested in the job offer."

Slade decided to stay put at the McCain Stadium and is concentrating on an FA Trophy tie against Dover tonight.

Slade told the Telegraph & Argus: "Speaking to the Bradford chairman and Nicky Law and after further discussions with Malcolm Reynolds (Scarborough chairman), I've decided to stay and see through the job here. The offer from Bradford was very flattering and it was a very difficult decision to make."

But Gibb is still mystified about his change of heart.

He added: "What is so surprising is that it was Russell who intimated to us that he wanted to get back into the Football League. It wasn't us that went to poach him, he approached us and we went through all the proper channels.

"But in a way I'm glad we found out now that he was obviously not the right man for the job before it was too late. We are a bunch of decent people at Bradford. We treat people with respect and we expect those joining our team to be the same."

Slade responded: "He can make his comments, that's fine. I just think it is more professional to say nothing."

Chris Dowhan will continue to combine the youth role as well as being Nicky Law's No2, with youth development officer Jon Pepper helping out.
