Two famous names in the brass band world are coming together in aid of the Bradford War on Cancer Appeal. James Shepherd and Gordon Langford are to play at a Melodies for You concert at St. George's Hall at 7.30 pm on March 19. Shepherd, who made his name with the Black Dyke Mills band, and Langford will play two piano solos.

Although there was a steady flow of customers for off-ration sweets today, there was no repitition of the panic buying of four years ago. In Bradford many sweet-shopkeepers said: "We can cope easily so long as the public continue to co-operate. Stocks admittedly are higher, but that does not mean we could not run out of sweets". It was a good day for the children. Now it is understood there will be more sugar mice, lollipops and sherbert fountains for sale.
