WHARFEDALE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY: Notes of the minutes of the 200th Annual General Meeting held last Thursday. The Treasurer reported a surplus of just over £3,000 which was very reasonable given the bad weather and the absence of Cattle and Sheep. John Stoddart-Scott retired after 14 years 'at the helm'. The new President, Robin Cowgill thanked him for all his years of support and service to the Show. A presentation of a Teak Garden Chair and a 'scroll' were made at the end of the meeting in appreciation. The Secretary reported that she was delighted that Cattle Sheep and Pygmy Goats would be back on the showfields this year and after an absence of approx 20 years, rabbits would be returning too. Also new to the horse section this year would be Coloured Horse and Pony classes. The Secretary also said that this year, she had introduced a 'Poster Competition' to design the cover for the 2004 Show Programme and this will be sponsored by Browns Gallery, Otley. Anyone wishing to exhibit is welcome at the office or can phone (01943) 462541 for details on the classes held from Baking, Handicrafts, Group entries, Horse and Pony Classes, both ridden and in hand, from Shetlands to Shires. Schedules for all the sections and forms for Trade and Craft stalls are available.
