A MURDER investigation into a body found in an Otley wood has been reopened after a convicted killer received two more life sentences.

Dangerous sexual sadist John Taylor, the convicted murderer of teenager Leanne Tiernan, is serving four life sentences after pleading guilty to the rapes of two women.

The killer is already serving two life sentences for the murder and abduction of 16-year-old Leanne.

West Yorkshire Police believe he could be responsible for other murders and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The body of Bradford prostitute Yvonne Fitt was discovered in the same spot as Leanne's in Lindley Wood in September 1992.

Now, ten years after her death, the police are looking closely at links between the unsolved murder and Taylor.

The discovery of a necklace in Taylor's car could be proof of another serious crime and police are appealing for anyone who recognises it to come forward.

Described by the judge at the trial at Leeds Crown Court of the Leanne Tiernan murder as a 'dangerous sexual sadist' police are convinced he is responsible for other atrocities.

Detective Superintendent Chris Gregg said: "Following Taylor's conviction we carried out research into a number of attacks and murders of women in the Leeds area and across the county.

"Further forensic work was carried out on DNA samples collected at the time of these offences which matched that of Taylor now held on the national database."

Following the trial detectives uncovered DNA evidence linking Taylor to the rapes of two women in Bramley which took place in the 1980s.

Det Supt Chris Gregg added: "These offences were committed almost 15 years ago, but we know that the women involved are still deeply affected by what happened.

"We hope that Taylor's conviction will enable them to move forward with their lives. We are still concerned that there may be other victims and families who have been affected by the actions of Taylor.

"Our enquiries are ongoing and we are still trying to piece together as much information as we can about him.

"We still need to trace the owner of a necklace found in a rubber seal in the boot of Taylor's blue G-registered Ford Escort. We know the necklace was not Leanne Tiernan's and would appeal for the owner or anyone who knows who it belongs to contact police immediately.

"Taylor led an isolated life indulging his passion for poaching, hunting and fishing.

"We have traced a number of his associates but are still keen to speak to anyone who may have further information about him."

Taylor, 46, was brought up in the Armley area and would take trips to the Lindley Wood area where he would camp and catch rabbits and fish.

He married in 1977, had two children and moved to Bramley in May 1983, he developed an interest in buying and breeding dogs for profit and built a number of kennels and outhouses to keep the animals in the back garden.

He also expanded his interest in country-style pursuits and poaching and would make his own rabbit nets which he would sell by advertising in local publications such as the 'Yeller'.

He divorced in 1996 and after a brief affair he began meeting women through the personal advertisements of local newspapers and advertising sheets.

The police enquiry team traced a significant number of women whom he met. He is known to have travelled to Liverpool, South Yorkshire and the North East to meet contacts.

He was employed by Parcel Force as a driver/delivery man working in the Leeds area between 1998 and 2000 and returned to work for them at their base in Bradford's Euroway in 2001.
