Ilkley Reserves 6, Tockwith Reserves 0

Another comprehensive victory made it 13 games unbeaten for the Guyson sponsored Ilkley Reserves who passed the 60 goal mark for the season with this 6-0 drubbing of Tockwith.

Having been held to a 0-0 draw by their opponents before Christmas Ilkley were out to make amends in this fixture. On a blustery day and on a slippery surface Ilkley began slowly and had to adjust to their opponents' formation early on before they could gain any meaningful possession.

During the early exchanges Tockwith saw more of the ball as Ilkley adjusted to accommodate playing against the extra man in midfield. Once that was done Ilkley found it easy to come out with the ball through full-backs Ashton and McTigue.

On one such occasion Ashton released Horne wide on the right after breaking up a Tockwith attack. With space to run into Horne left the defence trailing with his pace and once in behind them his cross to the back post was met by Mynett whose first time finish beat the 'keeper.

Once in front Ilkley gained more possession but found it difficult to play with their usual fluidity into the breeze on the slippy pitch. However, Tockwith failed to get into the game as Ilkley defended well and Taylor in goal mopped up any loose balls. More chance fell Ilkley's way and Smith had a shot well saved, Keith shot narrowly wide, and Rishworth had an excellent chance.

Ten minutes before half-time Ilkley's lead was doubled when Keith broke up play in midfield, passed to McTigue who fed Campbell and his pass allowed Smith to turn his defender before crossing to Rishworth who had the simplest of finishes from five yards.

After the break Ilkley knew they had the easier job playing with the wind. Consequently the game became something of a siege in Tockwith's half as they struggled to get out.

Ilkley soon added to the scoreline when Mynett was tripped allowing Smith to convert from the penalty spot. Soon after Ashton made it four when he rose at the back post to head in Smith's corner.

Ilkley were now breaking Tockwith almost at will and a fifth goal came when a good move involving McTigue and Rishworth allowed the latter to play in Campbell who finished from a tight angle.

With Ilkley in control Taylor in goal was a spectator and didn't have to make a save throughout as Beaumont and David Taylor at the heart of the defence organised the players around them to snuff out any attacks. With an eye on Saturday's game at Sherwood Ilkley rested Mynett, Smith and Horne allowing Tod, Turnbull and Merritt to add fresh legs. All three made a positive impact which was summed up when Tod found Merritt and his cross was met by Rishworth who headed in.

Ultimately this was a comfortable win for Ilkley. In defence Ilkley were compact and Ashton had another good game at right-back. Campbell had his best game for the club on the left wing while Keith and Rishworth battled hard in midfield and Mynett and Smith continued their effective partnership up front.

l On Saturday Ilkley visit Sherwood. Players meet at the swimming pool at 12.30 pm.
