More than 250 runners braved the mud and the sleet to take part in Airienteers event at Middleton Woods near Ilkley. This was a Colour-Coded orienteering event which meant that runners could choose courses of varying distances and technical difficulty to suit people of all ages and ability.

Some challenging courses were provided by the Course Planner, Rob King, and there were some notable performances, particularly on the longest and most technically-challenging Blue course, where Robert Wren and Ian Nixon completed the 6.4 km course in under 40 minutes.

The first three runners on each course were:

White (1.2km) - Cerys Jones, Florence Haines, Barbara Kerr. Yellow (1.8km) - Andrew Herbert, Sam Griffiths, Peter Hayes. Orange (2.9km) - Richard Jones, Sam Brown, Patrick Hudson. Light Green (3.3km) - Peter Turner, Ben Gill, Chloe Haines. Green (4.9km) - Alistair Fale, John Hayes, Emma Harrison. Blue (6.4km) - Robert Wren, Ian Nixon, Iain Smith-Ward.

Airienteers next event is on Ilkley Moor on Sunday, March 9. Registration will be at the Grammar School. This event will draw runners from all over the country but there will also be courses for beginners. Further details can be found on Airienteers web-site at www.aire.org.uk
