Detectives are checking for forensic links between the murder of Bradford teenager Rebecca Hall and a convicted murderer and rapist.

Detectives are to re-examine the evidence in the case after John Taylor, murderer of 15-year-old Leanne Tiernan, of Bramley, was given two more life sentences for two rapes.

Taylor was convicted of Leanne's kidnap and murder in July after he admitted the crimes.

Following the case, police revealed they were to question the 46-year-old, dubbed a "dangerous sexual sadist" by the judge at his trial, about four unsolved murders.

On Tuesday Taylor was sentenced after admitting two rapes in Bramley in the 1980s.

He was convicted after advances in forensic science enabled detectives to obtain DNA which linked him to the rapes. Taylor, a parcel delivery driver, worked for Parcel Force at Bradford's Euroway trading estate in 2001 when Rebecca was killed.

Detective Superintendent Chris Gregg, who led the investigation into Leanne's murder, today confirmed that her death and the murder of Bradford prostitute Yvonne Fitt were among those being looked at again.

The forensic evidence in both cases will be examined to see if there is a link to Taylor.

"He has been questioned about both these murders and he has denied any involvement," said Det Supt Gregg.

Taylor also refused to co-operate with the inquiry into the rapes at first, but admitted the attacks when more evidence was gathered.

Rebecca's body was found in an alleyway in Thornton Street on April 26, 2001.

The 19-year-old mum had been battered to death and an inquest found she was likely to have been killed on the day she went missing - almost two weeks earlier.

DNA samples were taken from her torn clothing and the scene where she was found.

Yvonne Fitt's decomposed body was found in Lindley Wood, near Otley - the same place where Leanne's body was found - in September 1992.

The 33-year-old was thought to have been there for four months after being stabbed several times.

Det Supt Gregg said these two murders were among several being re-examined as part of the probe.

"We are still concerned that there may be other victims and families who have been affected by the actions of Taylor."

Police are also seeking the owner of a necklace found in the boot of Taylor's blue G-registered Ford Escort. Anyone with information should contact police on (0113) 241 3004.
