Parkside school athlete Lucy Mayho took the West Yorkshire schools cross country championship by storm.

The 15-year-old runner was 18.5 seconds up on the second placed athlete after an impressive run.

From the gun she settled into third place, but by the end of the first lap had taken the lead and continued to stretch the other athletes.

Her dominant performance has earned her a place in the West Yorkshire team for the English Schools Cross Country Championships which are to be held at Brighton in March.

Deborah Sides, also from Parkside was 26th as the Bradford Intermediate girls team took third place in their age group.

In the intermediate boys James Durandish was 23rd and Jim Whittock 29th with the Bradford team taking bronze.

In the junior boys Robert Pullen was 23rd at the Bradford team took fourth place overall.

Alison Potter was 34th in the Junior Girls race with the Bradford team in second place.

Thre Parkside athletes were also selected for the West Yrokshire team after the Sportshall Athletics Trials were held at Beckfoot School on Sunday. Rachael Holdsworth, Sarah Mallinson and James Kennelly will go forward to represent West Yorks at the North East Championships.
