COUGARS are out for revenge against Sheffield Eagles on Sunday - to lay the ghosts of last year's nightmare defeats.

The Keighley side was beaten 60-0 by the Eagles, after one of the most humiliating performances of recent years, at Don Valley in the league -- and they were also beaten 35-14 in the Buddies National Cup later in the season.

The 60-0 defeat came on Gary Moorby's first match in charge, and the pain of that performance still hurts the Cougar coach even though it was before he had the opportunity to an impact on the team.

A year later he is determined the team will show just how much progress they have made in the past 12 months and the team has been left in no doubt about the size of the prize that is waiting for them.

"Victory would give us a place in the fifth round for the first time in several years, and with it comes the possibility of a very lucrative draw against a Super League club," Moorby said.

Gate receipts from games in the Powergen Challenge Cup are shared between the two clubs taking part, and there is the prospect of a bumper 'pay day' for the Cougar club.

"A day like that would give a tremendous boost to the club's finances. If we were draw Leeds, St Helens, Wigan - or even that 'other' club down the road - it would be great for the club.

"I can assure all our fans we will certainly be doing our utmost to get into the hat for Monday evening's draw," he said.

The trip to Sheffield follows a tremendous performance against the odds at Dewsbury last week when they held the NFP Division One club for most of the game.

"The lads put up a great effort an I was proud of the way we battled until the final whistle. We had out chances to take the points which would have given us a draw - or even win the game - but our final execution let us down.

"However, it is early days and we know we can improve considerably over the coming weeks."

Moorby's side went into the Dewsbury game with three changes from the previous week as he rested players with injuries and also wanted to make changes to bring in new faces.

Karl Smith, Lee Patterson and Ian Sinfield were out, while taking their place were Phil Guck, making his debut after joining Keighley from Halifax, Matt Steel and Lee Kelly.

During the Dewsbury game they picked up a two minor injuries with Ricky Helliwell suffering a back strain and Paul Ashton taking a knock on his knee.

"On the plus side Ian Sinfield and Lee Patterson are likely to be available for the Sheffield game," he said.

Moorby added: "We were on the receiving end of two defeats at Sheffield last season and we are anxious to make amends. We are expecting a tough game but rest assured we are definitely up for this one."

n The Cougar coach also added his congratulations to the Albion Cats team after reaching the Women's Challenge Cup Final.

"Sarah Walsh and the girls have shown great determination over the years and shown that out game can be enjoyed by both men and women. I wish them the best of luck in the final on Eater Sunday."
