Talks are going on between Bradford housing representatives and the Provincial Building Society to work out a unique new way of helping council tenants to buy their own homes. Under discussion is a plan under which tenants would make weekly payments covering both rent and a saving towards a deposit - with the purchase price pegged at today's prices, although the house may be bought in four or five years time.

The strength and swimming ability of a 73 year old watchman, William Crowther, of Adelaide Street, Fleetwood, saved his life at Fleetwood. After falling from the quayside into the river Wyre as he stepped aboard a trawler he fought against the fast-running tide, reached the trawler and clutched to the side until his cries were heard.
