Two men were today being questioned about the murder of have-a-go hero Tasawar Hussain after a series of dawn raids by armed police.

Two other men and five women were also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit armed robberies.

Eight of the suspects were today being quizzed by detectives at undisclosed police stations.

One man arrested for conspiracy was released on police bail.

The arrests came 11 days after Mr Hussain, 36, above, of Heaton, who was married with a five-year-old daughter, was shot dead after he pursued armed robbers who had struck at a travel agents in Manningham.

Yesterday's raids on four premises started in the early morning and involved more than 100 officers - some armed.

Neighbours in Freshfield Gardens, Allerton, watched a man in his early 40s dragged from his house in his underwear after an end terrace house was surrounded by about 18 armed officers from 5am.

Police remained at the house all morning, and neighbours said they saw officers taking numerous bags, which appeared to contain documents, and clothes from the property. The man, a lorry driver, has lived at the house with his family for a year.
