Andy Gray has finally acknowledged he is an out-and-out striker after bagging his 12th goal of the season in the Bantams' vital 2-0 win over Coventry on Saturday.

The converted winger, given the emergency striker tag since he began helping out an injury-hit Bradford front-line, snatched a 22nd-minute goal as Nicky Law's men grabbed their first ever win at Highfield Road.

And Gray then laid on the 82nd-minute goal for Claus Jorgensen - another surprise goal-getter this season - as City took another giant leap towards guaranteed Division One safety.

"I quite enjoy playing up front now," said Gray, who played a magnificent one-two with strike partner Ashley Ward for the game's opener.

"It helps playing with someone like Ashley up there, he is such an experienced player and he played some great balls for me. We have a good understanding.

"I think playing up front is the best position for me now. When I came into this season I didn't really set any targets but to be leading goal-scorer is fantastic. But as long as the team is winning I don't care who is getting the goals."

Manager Law was delighted with Gray's performance and that of many of his players and insisted that the win was no fluke.

"To say we had three scholarship players out there and two who have just come back from injury it was a great win," said a delighted Law as his side bounced back from last week's defeat at home to Brighton.

"I thought Andy Gray had a great game and it was great to see David Wetherall, who has not played since August 11, get through it like that.

"Jamie Lawrence did a magnificent job on Gary McAllister and only let him out of his sight once.

"It was a brilliant team performance, and everyone comes out of that with maximum credit."

Law still believes 50 points should be the target for his side and admitted that although it was great to win, safety cannot be assured if the teams below keep getting victories as well.

Bradford sit in 19th place but wins for Brighton and Walsall, who City face next week in a classic 'six-pointer', means they have not cleared much space between themselves and the trapdoor despite the win.
