Teen idol Gareth Gates is in a spin after performing on a new track - in a Ferrari.

The 18-year-old Bradford star was given a dream drive in the £150,000 motor by former Formula One racing champion Damon Hill at Silverstone.

He was given the treat as a pupil on Comic Relief's Celebrity Driving School which starts tonight on BBC1.

His driving ambition will also be literally put to the test as he is seen taking his driving exam. BBC producers filmed the all-important test in south east London at the start of February.

Driving a Vauxhall Corsa, the talented East Bowling teenager joined Lily Savage comic Paul O'Grady, actress Nadia Sawalha, The Fast Show's Simon Day, Big Brother star Jade Goody and Natalie Cassidy, who plays Sonia Jackson in Eastenders, on the programme.

The stars now have a nerve-wracking wait until Red Nose Day on March 14 before they find out if they have passed the test.

Viewers will see their reactions as they all learn of their results at the same time.

Former Bradford Cathedral head choirboy Gareth has also recorded this year's Comic Relief single, a cover of Norman Greenbaum's 1970 hit Spirit in the Sky.

His video features the stars of the hit BBC2 comedy show The Kumars at Number 42, on which Gareth will be a guest at 10pm tonight.

The single will be released on March 10.

The song and video are a hybrid of Bollywood meets Grease, and see Gareth waking up to a really bad hair day.

His despair deepens when his "guardian angel", hairdresser Sanjeev Kumar, descends from heaven to help, before the pair climb the stairs to hairdresser's heaven and into a glittering Bollywood musical finale.

Check out Gareth's highs and lows on Celebrity Driving School, which will be screened on February 24 and 28, March 3 and 7 at 8.30pm on BBC1. The results will be live at about 8.30pm on Red Nose Day.
