Avenue have rolled back the years to plug the gap filled by their latest injury crisis.

Former Bradford player David Donaldson returns to the club on a month's loan and will make his second debut tonight in the UniBond Premier League clash at Burscough.

The diminutive midfielder, who was formerly the Arsenal youth team captain and has played at Bradford City, has been at Harrogate Town this season, playing in the abandoned Boxing Day clash between the two sides.

Striker Jason Maxwell picked up a knock on his ankle in the vital win over Vauxhall on Saturday and will miss out tonight.

Robbie Painter is expected to move up front with Donaldson coming into midfield.

"David is a strong midfielder and is a useful addition to the squad," said manager Trevor Storton, who was delighted by Saturday's 1-0 victory over one of the league's top sides.

"He has a lot of the same attributes as Wayne Benn and I'm pleased we've got him back here."

Skipper Benn has temporarily moved back into the three-man defence which worked so well last weekend, while James Stansfield continues to miss out with ankle ligament damage.

Teenage striker Anthony Bingham returns to the bench after suspension.

After the win against the Motormen, Storton is hopeful his side will take a new-found confidence into tonight's encounter.

"It was a very good win for us," said Storton, whose side moved up to seventh place with the victory.

"Playing with three at the back made us a lot more solid and hopefully that will give us a boost in confidence.

"We needed to get back to winning ways and I'd like to think we can go on from here."

Burscough had a 5-0 victory in the FA Trophy at the weekend but Storton believes his side will be strong enough to match them.

"We always seem to do better against the stronger sides and hopefully that will be the case again," he added.

"They are a team that don't concede a lot of goals but they don't score a lot either."

Avenue have a habit of chalking up good wins on long mid-week away trips and Storton is hopeful that as long as his players have a "half-decent day at work", this will continue.
