Detectives have dropped an investigation into a serious sex assault on a 13-year-old girl after the youngster withdrew her complaint.

The teenager had reported being subjected to a terrifying ordeal in a recreation ground off Cliffe Avenue in Baildon at 7.30 on Sunday evening.

Following the allegation that she was sexually assaulted, teams of officers conducted a fingertip search of the spot, known as Sandal Park, and carried out door-to-door inquiries with residents around the area.

However, yesterday afternoon police revealed that they had officially ended the investigation after interviewing the youngster.

A spokesman for Keighley CID said: "The teenager has withdrawn the complaint."

He added that she would not face charges herself over the matter.
