Organisers of Bradford Festival are appealing to the public to reveal the district's secrets and help uncover its hidden treasures.

Bradford International Festival wants help to expand the successful secret Bradford projects where hundreds of people followed trails of the unexpected in a series of weird and wonderful guided trails, walks and journeys.

The event highlighted Bradford's hidden attractions and included healing wells, bone-chilling walks through graveyards and explorations of standing stones.

The organisers are now appealing for people to look at the city with new eyes and reveal "unexplored" routes.

Mandeep Kandola is asking people to contact her before March 7 with their ideas and the route they would like to be included in the tours.

She said: "We are looking for unusual and unknown perspectives on the city's hidden treasures that few would normally have the chance to see, and particularly welcome interest from people with disabilities.

"Do you take an interesting and slightly unusual journey to work? Is there a secret walk you'd like to share with others? Perhaps you have an unconventional job, hobby or social activity which reveals a hidden side to you, your city or community. Is there a case for the X- Files we need to know about?"

The "secret Bradford" event is part of an expansion of the festival which aims to bring in more local groups.

More bands will play in Centenary Square, children's events will be created for the famous Mela and the Lord Mayor's Parade will be expanded.

There will also be a major development in the multi-faith programme, with gurdwaras, mosques, temples and churches participating throughout the 11-day festival.

A street theatre programme will feature new work commissioned from local artistes, including theatre companies IOU and mind... the gap.

The festival will take place between June 12 and 22 with the Lord Mayor's Parade on June 14 and the Mela in Peel Park on June 21-22.

People wanting to pass on ideas for the "secret trails" should contact Mandeep Kandola at Bradford International Festival, Business Innovation Centre, Unit Five, Angel Way, Bradford, BD7 1BX, mandy@bethere2003.com, or by calling (01274) 722272.

Details of how to attend the tours will be released on the website www.bethere2003.com when they are complete.
