Horsforth could still be divided by the Boundary Commission, according to town council leader John Brodwell.

Now Coun Brodwell is urging residents to have their say about Horsforth's future to make sure the commission is well aware of local opinion.

He said that while Otley and Wharfedale is to be split up under the commission's draft proposals, so far Horsforth will stay intact.

But he added that unless residents wrote to the commission saying they are happy with the draft proposals for Horsforth, the proposals could change.

He said: "These are just draft proposals and people are still able to make their feelings known.

"Anyone interested parties who want Horsforth to change will certainly let the commission know, and it is possible that they will change the proposals.

"In that case, it is very important for residents concerned about a split to write to the commission.

"I sincerely hope that the proposals will be accepted and Horsforth will remain intact."

Otley and Wharfedale is to be split up under proposals, which are now under a six week consultation period, and the former ward will be split into three new wards with Pool-in-Wharfedale, Bramhope and Arthington going into the new Cookridge ward.

The proposals suggest three reorganised and renamed wards - Guiseley and Rawdon, Cookridge and Wharfedale and Otley and Yeadon.

The commission is required by law to review the electoral arrangements of every principal local authority and commissioners have decided that current arrangements across Leeds are unequal.

The aim of the boundary review is to ensure that the number of electors represented by each councillor in an area is as nearly as possible the same, taking into account local circumstances.
