A boy has fulfilled his dream of designing and voicing a cartoon character for a top television series - beating off competition from more than 25,000 other entrants.

Daniel Driver entered the Cartoon Network competition to design a new character for the hit cartoon, Cubix after seeing the competition while he watched television.

The 11-year-old Horsforth School student designed a character called Correctix, who will make his debut appearance on the Cartoon Network on Monday, March 10 at 5pm.

Cubix follows the adventures of a boy and his robot friends in the fictional town Bubble Town where each robot has its own unique abilities.

Correctix is a clever mathematical lab robot that helps with sums and also behaves just like a real calculator.

As well as winning the opportunity to see his character brought to life in the Cubix cartoon, Daniel also won a weekend in London for his family.

Daniel, mum Irene, dad Dave and sister Joanne, nine, were treated to an all expenses paid trip to London where they saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in London's West End and were treated like stars at the Planet Hollywood restaurant.

Daniel, of Hall Park Avenue, Horsforth, said: "A letter came and it was like a certificate which said that I had won but at first I didn't know what it was, but when I knew I was shocked and pleased. It was a bit strange doing the voice because I was in a little room but it was quite easy to do."

And mum Irene said: "Daniel is very laid back about the whole thing and while he's excited he is being very cool about it.

"He didn't really tell people what he was doing and it was quite a while after he entered that he found out his entry had won, so I think he was pretty shocked.

"Daniel was very good at the voice over, he was only in recording for about 20 minutes so we are all looking forward to watching it."

But Mrs Driver added that Daniel was taking his new found fame in his stride.

She said: "Daniel isn't big headed at all but he is very talented. He won an award at school when he was six and he really wants to go into design or graphics and cartoons.

Director of Channels at Cartoon Network UK and Boomerang, Richard Kilgarriff said: "The response to this competition was phenomenal and the calibre of the designs was outstanding.

"Daniel's robot, Correctix is spot-on and we are looking forward to watching it in Cubix on Cartoon Network this March."

Cartoon Network's family of channels together make up the most watched animation and kids' cable and satellite channels in the UK. Cartoon Network, the 24 hour, seven day a week, all-animation channel is operated by Turner Broadcasting System Europe Limited, an AOL Time Warner Company.
