Long awaited traffic calming measures for Burley Woodhead could start to be introduced before the end of next month.
Shipley Area Planning committee has approved final plans which will see a new 20mph speed limit and speed humps created along Moor Road for the length of the
village.
Signs showing the lower limit are expected to be put up in late March with the whole project, which is scheduled to take six weeks, due to be completed in May.
Bradford District councillor Chris Greaves (Rombalds, Con) said the decision represented the end of a prolonged, community-led struggle to have a safer road.
He said: "It's been a long, drawn out process we've been struggling with for a couple of years but we have now finally got through.
"It was a real bottom up, community self help project this, driven by a group of local people who were concerned and gathered the necessary evidence themselves. It was real grass roots, and the people of Burley Woodhead deserve a lot of credit for all their hard work.
"As soon as the signs go up in March, the 20mph limit will be official and anyone exceeding that can be fined, even though the speed bumps won't have gone in yet.
"It should all be finished by late May. The work will cause some delays, but if it causes disruption to rat runners to me that is a positive benefit, because it might encourage them to use other roads and get rid of that problem forever.
"I'm sure the residents will put up with a few weeks of nuisance to have a safer and quieter village."
