A Big orienteering event will be staged on Ilkley Moor on Sunday when 300 runners from all over the north of England, the Midlands, and Wales, will come to Ilkley to compete in an important event organised by Airienteers - the local club for Wharfedale and Airedale.

The event has the status of a Badge event, meaning that results from all age-groups, count towards a runner's national ranking.

Airienteers are fortunate to have a number of young orienteers who are in Yorkshire and England squads and they will be competing hard to improve their personal ranking.

The open but complex moorland of Ilkley is thought to be one of the most challenging orienteering areas around. The Event Centre is at Ilkley Grammar School on Cowpasture Road and runners can register at any time between 9.30am and 12.30pm on Sunday.

Orienteering prides itself on being a sport for allcomers, young and old, walkers and runners. So, in addition to highly technical courses for the most experienced runners, there will also be a range of courses for beginners. So all are welcome to come and give orienteering a try. Exercise and a sporting challenge in beautiful surroundings - what more could you want?
