A new era has dawned for Scouting in Riddlesden. The village's two groups, which for years have operated separately at sites just a few hundred yards apart, have merged.

The new partnership - between the 2nd Keighley and 20th Keighley (2nd Riddlesden) outfits - was celebrated last week when Beavers and Cubs enjoyed a fish and chip lunch, followed by a trip to the cinema.

Section meetings under the banner of the new group, known as 2nd Keighley-2nd Riddlesden, were held this week for the first time. Beavers and Cubs are meeting at the United Reformed Church, Bar Lane, on Wednesdays, from 5.30-6.30pm and 6.45-8.15pm respectively, while the Scouts meet on the same evening at the hut in the grounds of East Riddlesden Hall (7-9.15pm). Members have adopted the green-and-white neckerchief of the former 20th Keighley group. Chairman Barbara Bradley said: "We felt that to merge the two groups was the best way forward.

"We are bringing together resources to create a single strong group, which potentially has got to be a good thing. It is a very positive step."
