Cougar Cubs Under-14s 52 Ovenden 12 - Cubs came out all guns blazing in this tough encounter at St John's Road, changes due to injury and squad rotation meant several players were playing out of position, but it did make any difference to an excellent performance.

Man of the match Ben Carly ran the show from stand-off scoring five tries and he also had a hand in two more. Adam Wilkinson scored two tries, one a near full length effort, beating six men on the way. The Cougar pack started with only two regular players in their normal positions, Peter Forest making his first start showed he is a player to watch in the future with a storming show from second row, deservedly winning the most improved player award.

The ever-reliable Joe Kennedy gave another star showing with powerful runs and great tackling, and was rewarded with two block-busting tries. Anthony Kennedy played centre, tackling anything that moved to earn the Man of Steel award.

Oliver Charnock, Scott Arbuthnott, Mark Baker and Joe Scott all played their part. Carly ended with five tries and four goals, Joe Kennedy two tries and 4 goals, Wilkinson two tries.

Cougar teams came head to head with the All Stars taking on the Cubs in a classic semi-final encounter.

Cubs started the ealy scoring with Paul Johns barging through, but All Stars soon hit back. Sam Walker and James Sharples added two more tries for the Cubs to take a 14-4 half time lead.

Both sides tried almost too hard after the break and a David Emmott try converted by Cordeux narrowed the gape to 10-14.

More tense action followed until Johns slipped a pass for Walker who powered through to make certain of victory for the Cubs.

The final score was 20-10 to the Cubs, with both sides giving 100 per cent effort, but they didn't reveal the king of rugby both sides are capable of playing.
