Keighley LIFTS were chasing cup glory when they travelled to Grassington in the quarter-final of the Northern Plant Hire Challenge Cup.

Both sides turned on good football in an entertaining match. Defences were on top in a goalless first half, but Lifts broke the deadlock immediately after the restart with a goal from Steven Cook.

Both sides started creating chances as the game opened up and play swung from end to end. Grassington got back into the game from the penalty spot and the score remained 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes.

Extra time saw a fitter Grassington side start to put pressure on Lifts and they hit the bar twice before finally taking the lead. Lifts tried hard to get back onto level terms but could not pierce a solid Grassington defence and hopes of cup success slipped from their grasp.

Bronte Wanderers desperately need to start collecting points, and were at home to Grindleton in the Premier Division, but it was the away team that made the early running. They had Bronte pinned in defence forcing some great saves out of Tim Welch dot deny them a goal.

Bronte began to create chances of their own, with Sean Kavanagh going close. Grindleton took the lead from a free kick just before the break.

Bronte dominated for large parts of the second, but were unable to really test the Grindleton keeper. The Ribble Valley side made certain of the points with almost their only attack of the half.

Cross Hills travelled to second placed Skipton LMS and found the home side in top form. Hills tried hard to break down a solid defence, but could create few chances. The Skipton side always looked dangerous in attack and created many chances before taking the lead on half time. The Second half saw Cross Hills come into the match and took the home game to LMS but again the defence rose to its task and dealt with every threat before Skipton grabbed two further goals for a comfortable 3-0 victory.

Division One leaders Lothersdale athletic travelled to Hellifield looking for maximum points in a bid to open up the title race. They started well and Liam Jeffreys scored from close range. Dales passing football suffered on the bumpy pitch allowing Hellifield an equaliser and they secured a 2-1 lead at the break.

After 20 minutes of the second half two quick John Baker goals restored Dale's lead. He was unlucky not to get a third when he looked clear.

Hellifield drew level only to see Paul Smith put Lothersdale into a 4-3 lead, but lack of concentration in defence gave Hellifield a late penalty and a share of the points.

Oxenhope Recreation Reserves entertained Cowling and, as Oxenhope's first team match had been called off, their 'bench' consisted of several first team players. Cowling started well and took and early lead through Martin Brown. Two more chances were missed before Oxenhope got their game together and equalised through Ben White.

By half time they were 4-1 up with goals from Duncan Tetley and David Collier (2). Cowling continued to battle hard in a bid to contain Oxenhope after the break, but they ran away with the game, scoring a further five goals. Scorers were James Constantine, Chris Day, Patrick Higgins, Simon Knaggs and Duncan Tetley.

In Division Two Cross Hills Reserves repeated their fixture of the previous week's cup game against McBrides. Hills only had 10 men and attacked from the start, but Hills kept them at bay until McBrides scored just before half time. Hills equalised through Paul Myers in the second period and Stuart Parkin put them ahead. They looked like holding out until McBrides scored two late goals to secure a 3-2 win.

Keighley Lifts faced promotion chasers Barrowford United who dominated the early play. They scored at regular intervals, taking a 6-1 lead into the break, with the only Lifts goal coming from Paul O'Neill.

Cowling Reserves upset Division Three leaders Cononley Sports who found themselves on the back foot early in the game. Lee Complin scored the opener and although Cononley came back strongly the Cowling defence held firm until midway through the second half. After Cononley equalised both teams went for the winner. Cononley created the better chances, but it was Co9wling who stole the points when Complin scored his second minutes from time.
