YOUNG swimmers from Hothfield School were crowned primary schools champions during the finals night of Bingley Swimming club's annual schools gala.

The Shipley pool was packed as swimmers from 12 primary schools took part in some closely fought races.

The Silsden school took the title ahead of Baildon CE Primary who came a close second and Myrtle Park Primary from Bingley in third place.

In the secondary schools gala final saw a close battle between Oakbank and Bingley Grammar, with Oakbank eventually coming out winners. Thornton Grammar came third with Holy Family, Keighley in fourth place.

Trophies, medals and pennants were presented by Leo Beatty, President of the Yorkshire Amateur Swimming Association, Syd Johnson, President of the North Eastern Counties ASA along with Mr and Mrs Pitchforth the President, and his wife, of Bingley Swimming Club.

Gala organiser Maureen Morley said: This was the most exciting gala run in recent years and all the competitors were a credit to their schools."
