Skipton was hit by a Red Nose crisis this week.

The town apparently ran out of the popular hooters in the run-up to the big day today (Friday).

Stocks at the local Oxfam shop had sold out on Wednesday, forcing Craven folk to travel to Sainsburys in Keighley to obtain their noses.

Disadvantaged children are set to be a lot better off - thanks to the Yorkshire Sofa Company.

Its outlets on the Snaygill Industrial Estate and Newmarket Street, in Skipton, will be giving a 10 per cent discount to customers for every sofa, chair and sofabed bought this week.

This amount will then be matched by a further 10 per cent donation from the sofa company to Comic Relief.

Schoolchildren in North Craven are entering into the spirit of Comic Relief with various fundraising events.

Today will see pupils at Settle Middle and High Schools taking part in a Wear What You Will day and the coins paid for the privilege will be laid out in an attempt to link the two schools via the underpass.

And teachers at Settle Primary School will perform a red nose pantomime after school.

Also in Settle, patients at the Townhead Surgery will do a double take as GP Dr Claire Littlejohn is dying her hair red for Comic Relief.

In Ingleton, Middle School pupils will be trying to wear as many red items as they can and indulging in a bad hair day with many crimson crowning glories.

The day promises to be more energetic for four pupils at Skipton's Ermysted's Grammar School.

Jonathan Clark, Matthew Bundock, Thomas Roberts and Luke Yates are planning a 24-hour trampoline marathon, starting at 6pm tonight.

Look out too for the children of Aire View School, Silsden, today as they hold a 'Bad Hair Day'.

Staff at the Miners Arms, Greenhow, are also getting into the spirit of Red Nose Day by dressing up for a special three-course dinner and disco tonight.

The meal will cost £14.95 and will be followed by a 70s disco, with DJ Justin Wise. Guests are invited to come in fancy dress, with red hair or a red nose.

For every bottle of wine sold, £1 will be given to Comic Relief, along with the proceeds of the raffle.

The Miners is also holding a charity car boot sale and farmers market on Sunday. Admission will be £5, with all the proceeds going to Comic Relief.

Elsewhere, imaginative children are being asked to draw a picture of head lice with big hairstyles for Comic Relief! For 50p the pictures can be entered into a competition at Lloyds Pharmacy on Newmarket Street, Skipton.
