Cougars 78 London skolars 18 - COUGARS got back to winning ways with a 14-try demolition of league new boys London Skolars -- and delighted their coach.

After clocking up the big win he said: "We've worked hard on our support play in training and it obviously paid off. I told the lads to go out an enjoy themselves and to work at completing our sets of six tackles.

"I thought we were very professional -- apart from the way we let them score a couple of their tries."

Matt Firth ran the Cougar show throughout the afternoon, Skolars just didn't know what to do with him. His ability to run at the defence kept them on the defensive, and his ability to throw the ball wide allowed Keighley to rip the Londoners to shreds down the wings.

He was rewarded with four tries, capping his best all round performance in a Cougar shirt, and it wasn't his only reward from the afternoon. His fianc won £100 on the half time bingo -- a good day all round!

Another impressive performance came from fans' favourite Matt Foster. He scored two first half tires and could easily have had two or three more. His pace and size in the centre will be a real bonus for Moorby's squad once he regains his professional match fitness.

Firth let London know what was in store when he went over after only two minutes. Oliver Wilkes grabbed the second when the 'old man' Jason Ramshaw rolled back the years with a 30 metre break.

Firth added the fourth, foster the fifth and sixth before Karl smith side-stepped in off his wing for the last try of the opening period. Paul Ashton had kicked the first of his eight conversions as they reached the interval with a 38-0 lead.

In the second half there was more of the same, although Cougars let their levels of concentration drop and allowed the Skolars to score three tries. Indeed they opened the scoring after the break when Corey Bennett went over from close range, Jake Johnstone adding the first of his three conversions.

Their other tries capitalised on Cougar errors, Ronald Hushhiho intercepting and Ashton pass on half way, and in the dying seconds an ambitious Ramshaw kick was fielded by Kirk Wotherspoon who went 60 metres untouched to grap the last try.

Otherwise the Cougars were rampant. Richard Mervill marked a fine home debut with a try on 50 minutes. Five minutes later Phil Stephenson broke on half way before sending Simeon Hoyle scampering over for the try of the game. Ramshaw and Smith each grabbed a second, finishing off two fine moves. Firth bagged his hat-trick from a metre out before racing 80 metres for his fourth.

Two minutes from time James Rushforth and Firth combined to send Any Robinson in from 50 metres for another top drawer score.

The only downside to the game was the suspected broken ankle suffered by Ashton 10 minutes from time. His loss at this point of the season could be a disaster for Moorby's side.

With the kicker out of action Ollie Wilkes stepped forward and landed three of his four attempts, Moorby laughingly accusing him of 'delusions of grandeur' which revealed just what a win can do to lift spirits and rebuild optimism.

A home victory against Dewsbury on Sunday would provide revenge for defeat last month - and would be a true measure of the side's ability.
