Dougie Lampkin missed out on a potential 20-point victory -- when he was beaten by his own team mate in France last week.

Lampkin, who was fighting to retain a chance of campturing another World Indoor Chmpionship title, saw the opportunity for a win slip away when his Montessa team mate, Mark Freixa won the final race-off in Nice.

A win, with title leader Adam rage in third place, would have left Lampkin in with a real chance of taking the title if Raga was to slip.

Spectators were surprised that Montessa team orders didn't ensure Lampkin was handed victory in France once the team mates had reached the final event. Now the Silsden rider is 11 points behind with just one round to go, and he needs the Spaniard to suffer a disaster if he is to take the title again.

After the competition Dougie did not dwell on the strange tactics. "It would be wrong of me to comment on team orders when such a situation arises as it is not my job, or my decision. However I can say that rival teams were surprised that Freixa was not given any instructions to assist in his own team's title challenge.

"I didn't do enough to win, it's as simple as that," Dougie said.

The Silsden rider goes to Madrid in two weeks for the final round, trailing by eleven points so he can only take the title if Raga fails to score any points at all -- a very tall order.
