IT WAS good to have that winning feeling again on Sunday, but when I went looking for Paul Moses after the game he was nowhere to be seen.

Eventually I found him sitting in a corner with his head in his hands.

"Come on mate," I said. "There's no need to hide. That's the biggest win we've had since we took over - and I've bought you a pint."

The little fella was not having it, and I was starting to think he was ill.

Then one of the lads informed me that news had filtered through that Watford had knocked the Mighty Clarets out of the FA Cup while we were playing.

"There's definitely no trip to Cardiff then," said I, but there was no response.

I was going to ask him if he thought Stan Ternant's chances of the England job had also disappeared, but chose not to push it. Scrum-halfs can be pretty ferocious when upset, and he's no exception.

ONE real problem we're having at the moment is giving all the players in the squad game time. We have 26 players and obviously only 17 can play in any one game.

It is frustrating for the players who are training week in, week out, and yet not playing.

I also find it frustrating because I want everybody pushing each other for a place in the team, but how can you show what you are doing if you're not playing?

All through my playing career there was always an Alliance League. The A team games were usually midweek giving coaches a chance to look at players with a chance of making the 'bench' if they impressed.

It is a crazy situation, all our players are part time and keeping them all happy is not an easy task. Next season we are hoping to run an Under-21 side and with three Open Age players allowed that should help matters.

THE 'Big Four' are all in contention in the Challenge Cup this weekend, but my thoughts are with Swinton who take on Wigan.

Congratulations to Peter Roe and his side for making the last eight. I'm sure Roey will deliver one of his legendary team talks and I wish him all the very best, but a big pay day is probably the best the Lions can expect.
