PRINCE Henry's Grammar School rugby union player Danny Care has had a tremendous season.

Danny, who plays rugby for the school as well as for Otley Rugby Club, made progress through the selection process for the England Schools' 16 Group team.

Danny was in the final party of 48 boys from which the England and England A squads were selected.

The Otley youngster made it into the main England squad and made his debut at scrum-half for England against Wales at Neath back in April.

England lost 20-7 but Danny was awarded his England cap after the game.

He was then one of five Yorkshire players who were in the full England squad for the end of season internationals.

As a result of his efforts he has recently been invited to join an England squad to visit Italy in August for a training camp.

It is believed that Danny is the first Prince Henry's Grammar School pupil ever to represent the school at England Under-16 level.

However, over the past two seasons the school has had three other players in Ben Steele, Robbie Westworth and Luke Cooper who have played for England Under-18 Clubs side whilst being pupils at the school.

Danny has recently donated one of his England shirts to the school who propose to put it on permanent display along with shirts from the other recent England internationals.

A member of the Prince Henry's Under-16 team which won the Yorkshire Cup this season Danny has during the season also played regularly for the school's Under-18 team who also won the Yorkshire Cup.

It was unfortunate for Danny that both finals were played on the same day as he was forced to miss the Under-18 game!

The past five or six years have firmly established Prince Henry's GS as the most successful state school at rugby in Yorkshire as well as being one of the best in the north of England.
