Friends are rallying to help a young mum-of-two fighting cancer for the second time.

Adele Cronshaw is facing intense radiation treatment next month for a thyroid growth. It comes nine years after she underwent surgery to remove a malignant tumour.

The new tumour was diagnosed during a routine check last month.

Adele, 34, lives in Thornton but drives to Saltaire every day to her rented workshop where she runs a curtain-making business.

And the travelling - along with the upcoming cancer treatment - and coping with youngsters Daniel, nine, and four-year-old Victoria is proving difficult.

Her friend Anne Nicol, of Wrose, wants to raise money to convert her garage next to her home in Market Street into a sewing room to cut down the travelling.

Anne has organised a one-off Irish-themed fundraising concert and Guinness have sent drink for the night at the end of this month.

Adele said: "What they are doing is marvellous. I was really touched when I heard about the concert. I don't feel too bad at the moment. I am living off my nerves as you do in these situations. My friends and boy-friend are very supportive.

"My little girl starts school in September and it will be very complicated for me travelling to Saltaire."

About £3,500 is needed for the work and it is hoped it can be raised quickly so the conversion work can take place in June when Adele is in Cookridge Hospital for a week's isolation/radiation treatment.

The concert on Saturday, May 31, is already a sell-out.

Anne, said: "If she could work at home, it would make things so much easier for Adele. She loves all things Irish so this was a natural event. There's food and music and Guinness has offered to send some bottles to help things along."

Anne has made Irish stew and cabbage and bacon and hired band The Wild Rovers for the night.

Another pal is also making a huge pan of curry and chapattis.

Anne is also targeting builders and workmen for help in the project.

The Irish night will be held at Eccleshill United FC in Wrose starting at 7.30pm.
