One of Bradford's oldest nightclubs has closed to make way for luxury apartments in the heart of the city.

Time has been called on JB's in Manor Row because owner Asquith Properties wants to transform it into seven high-class homes to meet increased demand.

The company has already converted historic Broadgate House in Manor Row to create 86 apartments ranging in price from £65,000 to £200,000. But company chairman Russell Baker said 70 per cent of the homes were now sold and the company wanted to create more.

Originally the developers planned to keep JB's within the development with measures drawn up by noise specialists to ensure peace for the residents. But it then decided to go for conversion into homes.

The nightclub was formerly Cloud Nine and had been in existence in the city for more than 20 years.

The company is also planning to build a new six-storey property next to Broadgate House to be called Stonegate House, with 66 prestige apartments.

Asquith Properties says the apartments are been snapped up because they would cost up to £500,000 in Leeds but are within walking distance of Forster Square Station, making it easy to commute.

President of Bradford Chamber of Commerce John Pennington, said: "It is very good news when a company comes in to redevelop old buildings for city centre living. But you have to get the right balance and there has to be peace and tranquillity for the residents."
