St Mary's School took learning to art when it launched a special arts week programme.

All of the pupils at the Riddlesden school, from nursery to the prospective leavers in year six, were involved.

Chairman of governors John Learmonth said the week of artistic activities was planned to celebrate aspects of children's school work which was not as pressurised by targets and testing.

All week the children enjoyed various activities, including sculpture, silk painting, watercolour painting, rug ragging and flower arranging.

They had had a visit from a professional watercolour artist and a potter.

Their art work has also been complemented by music and dance and excursions to Cartwright Hall, Bradford, and East Riddlesden Hall.
