More than a dozen arrests have been made this week as part of the latest Keighley police crimebusting blitz.

On Wednesday police raided an address in the Fell Lane area and discovered cannabis plants and cultivation equipment in the loft.

A man was arrested and subsequently charged with a drugs-related offence, and was bailed to appear in court. A woman was also held, but later released without charge. Yesterday, four people from Braithwaite -- including a mother and son -- were being questioned in connection with alleged offences related to anti-social behaviour.

Other arrests made this week were for offences ranging from burglary to begging.

The latest five-day crackdown, which ends today, is part of the Target operation. Over 20 officers a day, with support teams from West Yorkshire Police HQ, have been involved.

In addition to the raids on specific addresses, uniformed officers have provided high-visibility patrols in hotspot areas -- including the town centre and Fell Lane -- and crime prevention leaflets have been delivered to several hundred homes. Also, the automatic number-plate recognition equipment -- which identifies illegalities with passing vehicles -- has been in use.

Det Chief Insp Roger Gasson, head of Keighley CID, said: "This week's activity is above and beyond the hard work officers put in all year round in Keighley. We have been out targeting those we suspect of being involved in crime, particularly the type that impacts most on people's daily lives -- robbery, burglary, vehicle crime and anti-social behaviour.

"We are only too aware that these types of crime cause victims much distress, not to mention inconvenience."
