It's full steam ahead on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway as volunteers celebrate 35 years of providing train services between Keighley and Oxenhope.

At 1pm on Sunday, railway volunteers and invited guests will join Keighley MP and railway preservation society president Ann Cryer on platform four of Keighley Station.

The 1854 theatre group will perform a short piece recalling the line's re-opening and senior railway officers will recount their memories of the line's early years.

Mrs Cryer, whose late husband Bob was one of the railway's founding fathers, will conclude proceedings with a short speech and then cut the celebratory birthday cake. Guests will then board a train hauled by BR Ivatt Tank No 41241, one of the steam locomotives which hauled the re-opening train back in 1968. It will carry the original re-opening headboard.

K&WVR spokesman Richard Greenwood said: "It is important that we do not forget the early days of the K&WVR and the tremendous contribution made by people like Bob Cryer and Ralph Povey. Thirty-five years on, the K &WVR continues to serve the local community and provide an enjoyable day out for visitors."
