VISITORS to the village of Gargrave will be able to find their way to all the main facilities -thanks to the efforts of the civic society.

To complement the newly refurbished main road through the village, two Victorian-style finger signposts have been erected, one near the summerseat, and the other on North Street car park.

They were provided following fundraising by the civic society with support from Craven District Council, the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and Local Agenda 21.

The Victorian-style posts were welcomed by the parish council which agreed when the idea was initially put forward that they would enhance the village and enable visitors to find their way around with ease.

They now point the way to the railway station, church, the Pennine Way and Sustrans 68 cycle route, the village hall, surgery, public toilets, greens and river.

It is envisaged the library and resource centre will be added when the facility - for which fund-raising is currently ongoing - is at its permanent address.

The civic society was revived last year and continues to be active within the village.

It is looking forward to the launch of the Sustrans 68 cycle route through the village on July 13 and is now working on its next project which will be an environmental study of the river and greens.
