A Bradford school is looking to shout its success far and wide.

Beckfoot School near Bingley has appointed a Success Co-ordinator to start work in September.

Bev Ford's job is to inspire pupils by sharing the successful things going on in school and make sure parents and the wider community know about them too.

Bev, who lives near the school in Cottingley and is 47, said: "I feel really passionately about the students here.

"Beckfoot is a school that really does care about its students. We want them to be successful and we want to share in their successes. I want to help them shine in lessons and in extra-curricular activities."

Bev has already worked at the school for 14 years, most recently as a learning mentor, and is well-known to youngsters as the organiser of popular events such as the school's Pop Idol contest.

"This is a new role and we're not aware of any other school doing this," said Charlie Tebbutt, business manager at Beckfoot.

"It's very important to us. We have lots of initiatives going to make sure we have very happy, enthusiastic and motivated students. We want to have receptive and enthusiastic learners who want to take part. We thought very hard about how to do that and have decided to create this post."

He added: "It's about sharing the achievement we have in school to create an inspiring environment." The new co-ordinator will be responsible for displays in school corridors, the house system, open days and the operation of the school reward system.

Mr Tebbutt said the school had missed opportunities in the past to spread good news about students' success.

For instance, every year sixth formers make a display of work to be judged by A-level assessors.

In future this will be showcased as an art exhibition for parents and younger students, Mr Tebbutt said.

And the school's Christmas Concert could be broadcast using a network of electronic whiteboards in classrooms, so more pupils can enjoy it.
