AFTER overnight rain storms had done their worst on an uncovered wicket Yeadon Seconds were put in to bat by their Priestley Shield opponents Mirfield.

Yeadon made light of the conditions and as the sun got hotter and hotter and the outfield dried out the ball fairly zipped to the boundary with some lusty blows from the Yeadon side.

They posted a score of 245 for five and this sealed their passage into the semi-finals.

The First Division side must have rued putting Yeadon in to bat as Darren Machell and Andrew Picker-ing set off at a cracking pace with 50 coming up off ten overs.

However, their 50 for nought soon became 56 for three as the two openers and Darren Smith were dismissed without adding much to the score. Machell had made 33.

His brother Paul and Tony Gilks then steadied things before Gilks opened his shoulders to take the score to 171 for four.

Gilks, unable to bowl due to knee and ankle problems, showed his ability with the bat in an excellent knock of 69.

Machell had played the minor role in this partnership of 115 but he was joined by Alex McInnes and a succession of boundaries saw them advance the score with McInnes making 35 and Machell a fine 63 not out.

Mirfield were then dismissed for 95 as Steve Gilks took the limelight with his slow bowling taking four for ten. Paul Machell picked up three wickets with Chris Wood taking two and Richard Wood one to complete a good day's cricket.

Yeadon's semi-final opponents will be drawn tonight.
