DOUGIE LAMPKIN has extended his lead at the top of the World Championship Trials table -- but his father was rushed to hospital after a crash in Andorra.

A crash at the start of the second lap put Martin Lampkin in hospital with a badly broken collar bone.

Despite the crash Dougie produced a professional performance.

"Thankfully my father is not seriously injured, they can't operate on the break, but they have strapped it so it can heal naturally.

"After the round in Japan we made a few changes, and they seem to be working well.

Dougie Lampkin increased his championship advantage to five points when he narrowly missed out on a second consecutive victory at the trial in Andorra.

Locked in a three way battle with team mates Freixa and Fujinami, Lampkin eventually lost the trial because he had a slower time than his Spanish rival.

"To have gained five points on Fujinami is a good weekend's work, especially considering the disruption caused by the loss of my father's services. However I can not be happy when you lose a World Championship trial on time, this is not how an event of this status should be decided.

"We need some more difficult trials so the difference can be clear, otherwise it will be a series for the strongest nerves rather than the best rider. The team has adapted well today, and my cousin James has done a great job at filling my father's boots, as that is no mean feat."

Continued hot weather and changes to five sections overnight, looked sufficient enough for the basis of a tough trial, but in reality the competition proved easier than yesterday's version, with the majority of riders posting lower scores than they had done the day before. Lampkin and Freixa could almost counted themselves out of the running when they both fived section twelve on the first lap.

Fujinami and Raga headed the field at the halfway point on three marks each, with Lampkin holding third spot on seven marks.

Lampkin perhaps thought he had done enough during the second tour to secure victory, but his single dab lap was beaten by Freixa who remarkably remained clean throughout the fifteen hazards to force a tie-break, which he eventually won.

n Dougie's next event is Round 6 of the championship in Spain this weekend.
