COUGARS aim to lift the gloom of last week's bruising defeat at Sheffield with a stunning performance against Peter Roe's Swinton Lions on Sunday.

The former Cougar coach returns to his old 'home' and makes no secret of the fact that he would love to pile on the agony with a second successive defeat for the Keighley side where he has been a fan, player and coach.

The match promises to be a real Cougar v Lions cat fight.

"When Swinton are on the field anything can happen. On our day we are capable of beating any side in the division -- but we are also capable of losing to anyone," he said.

The present Keighley coach, Gary Moorby is also under no illusions that his long-time friend would like to steal the points on Sunday.

"Obviously Peter roe will have his boys fired up for this one. He gave me my first professional job at Featherstone, he has also given me advice during my time as head coach at the Cougars, but the old palls act will got out of the window on Sunday -- at least until the full-time hooter sounds."

The two coaches have followed strikingly similar career paths.

"We both started our professional playing careers at Keighley before moving on to bigger clubs, I went to St Helens and Peter went to Bradford Northern.

"We have both coached Keighley Albion, and have both coached at Halifax. When Peter got the head coach's job at Featherstone Rovers he gave me my first job as a professional coach with the club's under-21s side which is something I will always be grateful for.

"On Sunday we will come head to head for the first time and I must admit it will feel unusual."

But the 'twin coaches' are in command of strikingly different teams.

After taking over during a period of turmoil Moorby has a settled squad sitting on the top of the league, and with team spirit on a high.

Peter Roe is a year behind after taking over the Lions when they too have been struggling. He recently got rid of two players and openly admits there may be more to come as he works to build a team with as much commitment to the club as the current Cougar squad.

"It's a long time since I've been at Cougar Park, except when I was working for the radio and I'm really looking forward to Sunday. I'm really pleased that the club is doing well and I'm pleased for Gary and Paul Moses.

"They are local lads who are doing their best with the resources available to them.

"We can beat anyone, but we will have to be at our very best if we are to take anything out of the game. The Keighley boys are coming off the back of a defeat at Sheffield -- and I know what to expect," Peter Roe said.

And there were no excuses from Moorby for that 33-6 defeat by Sheffield Eagles.

"We were particularly poor in the first half, we failed to do the business correctly. Our control of the ball was poor, and although there were complaints from the fans about the referee we have to learn to cope with that.

"We just didn't build a platform from which to control the game and there were a few harsh words at half time.

"We were the only team in the whole of rugby league that was unbeaten and in some ways it might be good to have lost that pressure, but we need to bounce straight back this weekend.

"I will be able to select from a full strength squad and the boys are eager to get back to winning ways," Gary Moorby said.
