Two new major retail developments are on the cards at Bradford's Kirkgate Centre.

JJB Sports will open a flagship store in the centre next year, while fashion store New Look will move into a unit this year that is four times bigger than its existing shop in the centre.

Centre manager Catherine Riley said the investment in the centre was great news for shoppers as well as the city as a whole.

Both JJB Sports and New Look are taking over space that was occupied by Boots, which has consolidated its business into a refurbished and enlarged ground floor store.

A 9,500 sq ft store is being designed specifically for JJB Sports, utilising Boots' third floor storage space and training areas. An additional escalator will be installed to take people up to the new shopping area.

The 16,000 sq ft New Look store will stock its full range.

As part of the development, another new shop unit will be created and negotiations are taking place to attract a multiple retailer not currently represented in Bradford.

"We're really excited about these new developments, which build on the success of the multi million refurbishment," said Mrs Riley.

"The fact that JJB Sports has identified the centre and Bradford as a location for a new store is a major boost that will bring more shoppers into the city. There are also a number of other changes planned as part of an overall programme designed to make the Kirkgate Centre an even stronger shopping destination."
